The Cool Gueshouse cordially invites you to join us in a Krathong workshop on the 24th and 25th of November.
During the Loy Krathong festival (translation: ‘float’ and ‘vegetable basket’), Thai people put some small handmade ‘rafts’ on the water, called Krathongs.
The Krathongs consist of a circular piece, usually based on a banana trunk, and decorated with banana leaves and various multicolored flowers .
They usually take the shape of a lotus flower (as a symbol of spiritual liberation), but this can vary. They are also surmounted by a little candle, at the time they are dropped into the water. The candle is used to show respect to Buddha (the light), by the Thai people.
The releasing of a Krathong on the water also enables the person to ‘let go’ everything that is bad in them (i.e. anger, evil thoughts, resentment, etc.) at the same time.
Water is very important in the Thai culture.
They also celebrate with water during their New Year (April: Songkram.)
Throughout the day of 24th and 25th November, we invite you to join with us to learn how to make your own Krathongs.
And you, too, can release your very own hand-made krathong in the river that evening.
